I do IT project management for a living, and live for sailing - navigare necesse est, like they said.
Having been somewhat involved with buzzwords like "agile", "scrum", "kanban", "devops" etc and having read quite a bit of naval history I started seeing similarities. This inspired these writings on various subjects, all trying to revolve around the similarities and differences between current software and IT development lingo and practice and what has been known to work for mariners for centuries.
So venture capital is great and unique to Silicon Valley? Bah and humbug, how do you think they founded the Royal Navy? How about "devops", that surely is a new concept? Ahem, right, but how about watch system and idlers on sailing ships?
If you enjoy this like I do, please let me know and leave a comment. If not - well, I'm sure there is an alternative in the Web to your liking!
